From about 12 months your baby will be on the move. Whether crawling, cruising along the furniture or walking toddlers are inquisitive and enjoy the challenge of toys that stretch them a little. Shape sorters and simple construction toys are ideal. A push along walker can hold other favourite toys and help your baby become upright. Also try simple puzzles or jigsaws.

Two year olds enjoy creating so buy paints, glue and tissue paper. They also love music, so try a musical activity centre that rewards with light and sound.

Three year olds enjoy imitating the world around them in detail. Mini versions of real life vehicles and household appliances are popular, or make your own out of cardboard boxes.
