Sample daily eating plans for weaning your baby

Just starting solids

Breakfast - breast or formula milk; mid am - breast or formula milk; lunch - 1-3 teaspoons of baby rice mixed with breast or formula milk; mid pm - breast or formula milk; supper - breast or formula milk; bedtime - breast or formula milk

After 2 weeks

Breakfast - breast or formula milk; mid am - breast or formula milk; lunch - 1-3 teaspoons of baby rice mixed with breast or formula milk, and/or pureed vegetables or fruit; mid pm - breast or formula milk; supper - breast or formula milk; bedtime - breast or formula milk

After 4-6 weeks

Breakfast - breast or formula milk; mid am - breast or formula milk; lunch - 1-3 tablespoons of baby rice mixed with breast or formula milk, pureed fruit and vegetables; mid pm - breast or formula milk; supper - 1-3 tablespoons of baby rice mixed with breast or formula milk, pureed fruit and vegetables; bedtime - breast or formula milk. (Gradually increase portion sizes.)

8-12 months

Breakfast - infant oat or wheat based cereal; mid am - breast or formula milk lunch - pasta and broccoli in cheese sauce, fruit compote; mid pm - breast or formula milk; supper - baked beans and mashed potato, fromage frais bedtime; - breast or formula milk

  • Lentil hot pot


  • Soya mince shepherds pie


  • Lentil shepherds pie


  • Macaroni cheese


  • Butter beans with cheese


  • Avocado dip on jacket potato


  • Pumpkin & sweet potato stew in a pot


  • Pasta in a tomato, pepper and spinach sauce (Remember not to add any salt.)
Puddings (from 8-10 months)
  • Fruit compotes


  • Rice and sago puddings


  • Stewed dried fruit


  • Custard Yogurts


  • Fromage frais

asilscott- i had the same problems wiv my son he wouldn't eat anything lumpy except mashed banana. As he liked banana so much i mixed the lumpier food with it and gradually reduced the amount i put in and now he will eat anything lumpy. Maybe you could try this with your son with whatever his favourite food is i even used the fruit purees to mix in that you can buy in shops. Hope this helps :)

my son is one year old and will eat some finger food.if i make any dinners like sheperds pie or roast and mash it he spits the lumps out also pasta with cheese sauce he spits out ive even pureed it and he spits it oou.he didnt even like stage 2 jars with lumps he spat it out evertime.im getting worried as he really loves stage 1 jars and its not to good for him? any ideas thanks

what kind of finger food would you recommend for my 8 month old granddaughter Hollie,we,v tried the special biscuits for her age but twice they have broke and she looks like she,s going to choke.

Hallo, i just registered afew minutes ago, because i loved your ideas especially on weaning babies. Thank you, i think you are doing a good job, especially to the firsttime mothers, good job.
