Bonding with your premature baby

Advice on bonding with your premature baby even if you cannot hold her straight away, plus infomation on neonatal care and preterm babies.

Discuss bonding with your premature baby on our forums, right now! Or, post a comment below.

From the moment of your baby's birth, when you see her for the first time, even if you cannot hold her straight away, you will be bonding with her. This involves talking to her, holding hands, stroking her, caring for her, feeding her and at last holding and cuddling. Your confidence in your ability to care for her yourself will grow with your own skill and with the encouragement of the midwives and nurses.

By the time you and your partner take the big step of taking your baby home for the first time you will be well able to look after her. Not only that, your confidence and love will transmit to your baby who will rest secure in the feeling of closeness.
