Pregnancy week 9

Early stage of pregnancy symptoms at week 9 of being pregnant - You will probably be noticing how many times you go to the toilet during the night as your womb presses on your bladder.

Discuss pregnancy week 9 on our forums, right now! Or, post a comment below.

You

You may notice a thickening of your waistline this week, though you probably wont look any different to other people. You will probably be noticing how many times you go to the toilet during the night as your womb presses on your bladder. Cut down on tea, coffee and other drinks containing caffeine, but not your general fluid intake. Hormonal changes can affect your sense of taste and digestion, and your ligaments have begun to soften to prepare your baby for the growth and expansion that lies ahead. It is normal to develop a tracery of veins at this stage, but you may have noticed them earlier.

Your baby

Your baby is beginning to move her arms and legs. The eyelids are closed tightly over the developing eyes and the face is very human looking. Your baby's liver is producing red blood cells which are pumped around the body by the tiny heart. Your baby's heart has four chambers and beats twice as fast as yours. Muscles are developing so a scan would now show real movement. Your baby is now about the size of a jelly baby.

Hi, im 15 and 9weeks pregnant. I recently had a mifepristone tablet (1st stage of termination) after the first stage i totally changed my mind and decided i wanted to keep my baby! i regret totally taking the tablet and hope and prayer my baby will give me a second chance. I was forced by my boyfriend to have an abortion, now i have realised whats really important and thats what i want, no one else. Im advising anyone who is deciding on an abortion THINK really good and hard about it, because one done theres no going back. Because i took the mifepristone there is a chance i may miscary but the nurse at my hospital says shes dealt with girls in my case, who have taken the mifepristone tablet, changed thier mind, and gave birth to a healthy baby. But before you decide to take the mifepristone MAKE SURE this is what you want because it could lead to misscaridge if you dont carry on the termination. I hope this helps anyone who is in two minds of what to do. Remember its up to you, NOONE else.

HI KatieB89, congrats on your pregnancy, I too am due around same time (08.04.10). Please don't worry about not having any morning sickness, just count yourself extremely lucky! I am a veteran at being pregnant, this is my 4th baby and my first 2 pregnancies I was sick, sick, sick, but with the 3rd I felt nauseous but not actually sick and this time I was sick once with a bit of nausea. I have two girls, one boy so may be that you are carrying a boy? The fact that you are so tired is down to the hormones, rest as much as you can and it will pass after 12 weeks. Hope this helps! xxxx

HI everyone. Congrats to mummies on week 9. Just wanted to say to elle and nicola to try not to worry to much as what will be will be. I had a miscarriage in March which was very painful and poorly managed by paramedics - I was left alone at home to pass the foetus. Never been in so much pain and they didn't know what to do. They tried to put me off going to hospital saying nothing could be done. Anyway to my suprise I'm pregnant again and like yourselves naturally terrified it could happen again! It is normal around this time to keep checking for blood, your body is relaxing inside and producing discharge which can feel like bleeding you would get when you start a period. It is going slow but each week feel better that you are not alone. This site is great especially now when most of us are reluctant to tell anybody and we can share our feelings. To Elle, I can't imagine what is was like for you to lose a child so far along but take comfort that you can conceive naturally and you WILL have your family soon. glad to hear the heartbeat is ok, my chappies sister bled on and off for 3 months and her baby is due in 12 days now. At the time she was only 4 weeks in front of me, I bled once and it was game over.

This time round I feel different, yes scared but have been so sick, even watching the people on Jeremy Kyle makes me feel nauseous - esp. people with bad oral hygeine! I struggle to brush my own teeth most of the time in between heaving! Forget the dental appt. too scared i'll be sick over the equipment!!!

Good luck ladies. Eat well, try and rest hope your scans go well mine isn't until 22nd Sept!! Love cyprus brummie1xxxxxxxxx

Hi alll, im 9 weeks pregnant, & found out i was pregnant just 3 weeks ago. Had a scare 2 days after finding out i was pregnant as i started to loose blood. Went to the early pregnancy clinic for a scan & all was well. Baby in correct place & healthy heartbeat. I didnt get to see the baby, but was reassured everything was ok. I am worried though as i am still loosing a tiny amount of brown blood, but have been told this is the end of the blood that came out 2 weeks ago. Also had a still born child in 2000, and i was 7 and half months gone. It was terrible, but i am trying to remain positive. On a brighter note i am sooo very happy & so glad i came across this site. All of the comments have made me feel better & will keep posting. Congrats & good luck to you all xx

Hi playwithsarah, yes I was toatally on my own (with help from family) throughout my pregnancy and at the same time I was having to help care for my late mum who had cancer. I know that it doesn't feel the same not having the dad there but in my experience your family can help make it just as special. When I gave birth I had my mum, dad and Nana there and seeing my daughter born was the best for them and it has given them a bond for life. My daughter is nearly 4 now and I am expecting a baby with my new partner. I will be lovely for this baby to have two doting families but I can't imagine a bond the same as with my daughter and I as for a time it was just me and her againt the world. They are the most important thing. You'll be fine!!!

hi all, I'm 9 wks pregnant and had my first scan last week as I lost my first baby 18 months ago at 7 weeks. got a positive heartbeat and get another scan in 2 weeks so it will be amazing to see the change. My morning sickness is absolutely awful, even though am not being properly sick the heaving is so embarrassing, from having to run out of the office to wandering round the supermarket like a special case cos I can't make the heaving quiet!!!! I may have found something though that could help morning sickness.....boots do a vitamin drink apple & raspberry I think that has extra vitamin c and zinc in. It's a bit expensive at £1.75 a bottle (500ml) but whenever I drink it I don't have any sickness for the rest of the day. Worth trying for all other mums2b that are sick of being sick!!!!

Lbicky, its not iron you need at the moment because now you are pregnant you arent losing iron in the blood from your periods. Its folic acid you need and all the other vitamins just not too much vit A. Good luck! x

A message for Linda (Lbicky) I too am 9 weeks pregnant, and don't suffer from the morning sickness (which is worrying but at the end of the day very lucky!) I have invested in a couple of pregnancy books which i recommend any expectant mother to buy, as they are ideal for all the info you need and on what to expect. Although i am concerned i'm not getting morning sickness i always remember everyone experiences pregnancy differently, so it's perfectly normal. Also it's extremely important that you take folic acid for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy! And i would do this straight away. This helps prevent your baby from developing a defect of their spinal cord such as spina bifida. Ideally you are ment to take them if your planning to get pregnant also. I'm quite surprised your GP didn't tell you to do this anyway. But please do start taking it ASAP! Good luck! Katy xx

hi, im 9 weeks pregnant and going for my booking appointment tomorrow. this will be my second child and i have a few concerns. i seem to have put lots of weight on over the past few weeks and to look at me you would think i was more like 6mths pregnant, has anyone else found this. also when my baby is born my son will be 10yrs old and i worry how he will cope with a new baby in the house, as he has been the only child for so long, i have spoilt him and find it hard to say no to him. i fear he is going to find it difficult to adjust and have to share me, any advice would be great . xxx

Hi all, I am 9+5 weeks pregnant. I am really excited about it but scared too as it is my first. I don't know what to expect and have not got friends to ask, so I rely on internet info and education through books. Happy I can share my concerns through this medium. I haven't been experiencing major sickness except some severe stomach ache now and again. I ate ice some days back and had some terrible tommy pain and realized perhaps I shouldn't have had it. Anyway, best of luck to us all.

Hi to the 45 year old with concerns,I to am 45 infact weeks off of being 46.I already have 7 children ranging from the age of 25 down to 2.This last little mishap was a complete surprise as I thought I was over the hill for conceiving. But I should of known by my track record that age wasnt going to stop the life cycle continuing in my household. We are overjoyed but are a little afraid of telling the others, onle because my oldest has just had his first baby and I have a new name of nana.Im a young 45 but im sure my kids wont agree as I think they consider your ancient once you hit 30.One thing that does really worry me is having this cvs, part of me is keen to find out if everything is well and good but the other half is worried sick, what are other mummys views on this subject ?

hi. im 9 weeks pregnant-and 45 years old.
im terrified i will be the oldest one and scared of complications. i had pre eclampsia with my daughter who is nearly 10. i only came off the pill to try and reduce my still high blood pressure-the doc told me it was close to impossible to get pregnant at my age without outside medical help!! whatever.
we are delighted and exited- we have our nuchal; and dating scans booked, i have medication which appears to be controlling my stupid blood pressure, but i just feel very isolated as everyone seems to be 21! im a very young and very fit 45-but still 45 and scared of being mistaken for its gran. is anyoune else out there feeling like this?

Hi there all,
I'm 9+2 weeks pregnant and on my second pregnancy. I have 4 year old twin boys and now on my third and final. Don't know about you, but am feeling super stressed yet excited all at the same time, my poor husband does't know whether he's coming or going with the endless hormonal incidents.
Am feeling sooo bloated and can't wait for a bump so that people at work don't just think i've become incredibly chubby all of a sudden.
Sickness has settled a little and am only starting to feel sick now when hungry. 12 week scan's booked for 30th March and very much looking forward as early scan was soo tiny, v hard to make anything out.
Good luck ladies

Hello mothers =D. i am about 9 weeks pregnant, I am on my second time pregnancy, but my other fetus passed, due to being mal-nurture. That was four years ago and I have gained wait and am more fit. I have felt sore breast with in the first 4 weeks of pregnancy. but my nipples are now feeling itchy. started for me right away. I have been experiencing Nausea ion easily, by smells, ( meat especially) ( I have herd ginger helps with foods. but water works best for smells, I believe) and getting up. I notice a slight pain or discomfort in my left side (witch is another sign of constipation the doctor says) I am hopeful and have not really felt any pain, or warning signs. if anyone knows a few tips about caring or remedies, exercises, foods, that might help the baby be healthy, fit, I am open.
Thank you and I wish you all well.

Hi every1 and congratulations to us all hey!!. I am 9 weeks and 4 days pregnant and have had 2 scans already. Cant believe i am pregnant as i gave up trying last year after losing a baby at 19 weeks and another at 14 weeks, due to an infection of the womb which was believed to be brought on by BV. Unfortuantly i have BV again in this pregnancy and was wondering if anyone out there has managed to get to full term with this condition. I also have 2 children aged 14 and 12. I am worried sick and would be really grateful if anyone knows anything about this topic to try to keep me sane over the coming months.

Hello all. I'm 9 weeks pregnant too and been suffering prolonged nausea! Can't stand the thought/smell of meat anymore (which does have its benefits as hubby cooks now...) Also sore boobs, constipation, tiredness and the occasional mood swing... Great - though I don't care - I haven't had a scan yet so its proof that baby is still there. Struggling through work with an employer who I don't want to know just yet.. First midwife appointment next week!!

Hi all! i am 9 weeks pregnant. first baby! since my pregnancy i am not able to eat vegetables or anything green yet this is rich in folic acid. green things cant pass down my throat coz of nausea. every day is a night mare for me. all the things i liked to eat taste different now and i don't eat them anymore. i am very very bad with appetite. i only drink soups with hot chillies and fruits. O! dear! cant wait to be normal again. but i am extremely over joyed and excited about my baby.

i think i am 9wks also but have my scan tomorrow so i will have more of an idea i really vannot wait.
i am also feeling flutterings already, and still am a little bit in shock thinking i am making the whole thing up ....so my scan will put my mind at rest....i hope! :) michelle you may only be 21, i am 30 and a 1st timer and i dont think the age or the amount of kids you have change that becoming a mother must be the most scariest yet rewarding thing ever. i am on my own and have the same panic whether i am going to be good enough and whether i will be able to provide for us both and give my baby the best life i can. You shouldnt feel forced to have a baby is one of lifes miracles a little blessing for you! Although i have this fear of the future and measuring up to super mum standards, that fear is nothing in comparison to not having this chance to do the best i can. After all, all we can do is our best and i may not have the biggest wallet but my babay will be dripping with love! ps i have just got back to normal from the emotional roller coaster i was riding a couple of weeks ago, that fair wasnt all that fun. Good luck to everyone

Hi, This is my first baby, very unexpectedly as I'm not supposed to be able to have babies. I'm 40 years old and have been very frightened. I've had a ccouple of internal scans to make sure the foetus is where it should be and that there is heart beat, which there is and is really strong. Now that we are over the shock of seeing 'that' blue line, me and partner are soooo pleased. I didn't think I could feel any more love for him than I did, but this has introduced a whole new level. I cannot wait for my next scan to see the development. I love logging onto this website ever day to see how my baby is developing and what to expect from my body now. I'm exhausted all the time, but no morning sickness yet...touch wood it won't come either. I hope all you other mum's to be are as happy as I am.

For this pregnancy was sent for a 5wk scan which only showed an empty sack again! after what seamed to be the longest week of my lifewhent for another Scan to find a baby and a heartbeat.
Feeling very tired and sick but loving the fact there is a baby inside me I love. Hope everything goes well for everyone and keep my finger crossed over the next few week of the first trimester xxxx

Hi, I'm in my ninth week and feeling sick and tired all the time. I've just spent a week in France - being a pregnant vegetarian is very difficult over there!!!! This is our first baby so I'm very excited but anxious at the same time. I've never felt so ill for such a prolonged time and just have to keep reminding myself that this is probably a good sign that the baby is healthy. xx

Hi, I am 9 weeks pregnant for the second time round. A year and a half ago, when I was pregnant with my first I used to look on this and see all the funny comments people would write and see that all new mums to be were going through things together, which made the suffering easier. I promised myself that if I was pregnant I would join. Lets hope the next 7 months will be as interesting as the first. lol

Hello everyone!! I have nevre done this before so bear with me :o) Im Nikki, 22 and i found out I was pregnant about four weeks ago! Im 9 weeks on friday 3rd Oct. I was diagnosed with Poly Cystic Ovaries ( I think thats how you spell it) when I was 15..young I know but ever since then I always wondered about having children. a few of my friends had children young and i thnk that just made me more broody! Anyway 7 yrs on I have finally heard the news I have been longing for! Me and my partner have been steady for a long time and we both have really good jobs and our own home so we was going to start trying just after new year this year. I am so happy! Is it normal for it to feel so unreal even at this stage??? I started to bleed a lil last week..I was so scared!!! I had an emergency scan and every thing is ok thank god!!! Just seeing the heartbeat on the screen made me cry my eyes out!! I just feel at the minute am waiting for something to go wrong..Iv read up on so many things and with my having PCOS i am more likely to misscarry....how can i relax!!!! Any advice would be great!!! oh and i do tend to go on a lil......sorry :o) Speak soon, Niki xxx

Hi Sammy, I too am 9 weeks pregnant and I am nervous as I suffered a missed miscarriage in April at my 11 week scan. I have noticed my symptoms are worse this time. Last time I just had continuous nausea, this time I have had nausea, absolute exhaustion and constipation causing daily abdominal ache! I have not told my 7 year old about the baby yet because last time he was home when I came in from my scan very upset. I have a scan on Thursday (2nd Oct) and am hoping that things will be ok this time. Good luck and keep posting on here. My due date is 5th May too!

I am shattered and bloated but otherwise I feel great! This is my first, so I am just counting down until my scan on the 23rd Sept to know that baby is ok!! Once I hear that little heart-beat I will relax a bit!!
Luckily my husband is an angel and is 'keeping house' for me while I sleep a lot - LOL!

Hey :) im 9 weeks and havent even seen a doc yet! Our first midwife appt is in two days, excited and nervous all at once. This will be my second child, but my partners first (my son is 5 from a previous relationship) this time round I have all the symptoms going, moodiness, tiredness, bad skin, heart burn, and the main two are feeling sick 'all' day and my sense of smell has gone through the roof - its crazy! I have no sex drive either so feel so sorry for my partner, im like a different person :( we're so happy about having a child, although i wont deny we havent had the pleasure of enjoying the experience just yet.. but watch this space :) xx oh! ps My belly has got alot bigger already - obviously this isnt baby just yet but im very bloated in the evenings and my tummy feels like a water bed lol! niiiice

Wow---Embrace and MBW....I am going through the same! I am 9 1/2 wks and had fluctuations in symptoms. I was concerned and called my doc which said it's normal. I also had a missed miscarriage before but its been eight years ago. In between I had a beautiful baby girl who is 6 yrs old now. Its tough to keep the faith in these first few weeks. I wish I could go for a scan each week for peace of mind. However I try to remain with the idea that I read in another post - PUPO...pregnant until proven otherwise! The way I see it is God has His hand on everything---therefore pray through it! That's what I am attempting to do everysecond of the day. I don't have my next appointment until Friday of next week and will update then.
God bless you both and just know you're not alone! (or a newly diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic).heehee

MBW~your comment could not have come at a better time. i freaked out a little this morning too. i am also 9 weeks and this last fall we miscarried at 14 weeks. i am thought of as high risk (bc of the late term mc) so they are monitering the heart beat every week. my next appointment is on this friday, however, i did not feel at ease this morning so i made an appt this afternoon.

i wish i could put you at ease but i'm sure i speak for both us when i say, "it won't be until the little one is in our arms screaming back at us that we'll feel comfort" but i am sure YOU ARE FINE. just try to completely take your mind off of it. even if it means neurotically blogging . i can say that going to the Dr. weekly to hear/see the heartbeat has helped me tremendously. maybe do the same? one day at a time.

I am 9 wks pregnant and I am very nervous of the uncertainty of whether my baby is still alive. Had a missed miscarriage in Feb this year so very anxious about the first 12 wks, has anyone else got these concerns as well and what can I do to keep myself sane?

I am due on the 6th Feb and am 9 weeks pregnant now, am feeling so unhappy at the moment as I dont feel like my partner understands me. He is aware that I will have mood swings and be hormonal but he just isn't dealing with it very well - he gets angry back, please help. He's happy about becoming a Dad but has shown no interest in how the baby is developing from week to week. So sad.....

I had a scan done 3 days ago as i had abit of a scare, but luckily everything is fine. Funnily enough my baby is the size roughly of a jelly bean and was moving around. It was amazing to see especially the heart beat. This is my second child and I have to say yes my waist line has got thicker and i feel like i'm filling out alot quicker this time (not to happy about um!) I'm very tired at the moment and could sleep allday and my skin is a little spotty and i really need to wee at night ha ha, hopefully this will pass soon. Apart from that i am enjoying the pregnancy very much. Good luck with yours too x
