Pregnancy week 6

Signs of pregnancy during week 6 of being pregnant - You may begin to feel sick in the morning.

Discuss pregnancy week 6 on our forums, right now! Or, post a comment below.

You

You may or may not be feeling too different, however you will probably be feeling tired and maybe irritable. You may notice your breasts are bigger and tender. The hormones flooding the body to help your baby grow may mean you may begin to feel sick in the morning, though many women have 'morning sickness' during the day. You may also wee more often as your womb swells and put pressure on your bladder. Avoid certain foods like raw or undercooked meat, soft cheeses or raw or runny eggs as these may contain bugs that could harm your baby.

Your baby

This week facial features are now beginning to appear. Folds on either side of the head mark your baby's ears and there are openings for the mouth and nostrils. The retinas of your baby's eyes are also developing. Your baby should measure about the same size as a grain of rice. Your baby's length is measured from the top of your baby's head to the bottom, known as crown-rump length. Your baby's heart is beginning to flutter. Your embryo will be visible on an ultrasound scan as a tiny blob, with distinct heart movements. The umbilical cord is now fully formed and so have the beginnings of fingers, toes and facial features. The embryo floats in a fluid-filled sac which contains all that is needed whilst the placenta is formed.

Hi i found out that im pregant after my first IUI worked! Very excited! Due begining of June so im in my six week. Week four and five i had really bad cramps in my lower tummy/groin. I was reassured that it was normal and the womb expanding and only to worry if i started bleeding. Thankfully everything has been fine and cramps have now stopped. Boobs very very tender but no sickness yet! Good luck to everyone at this exciting time xx

Hi i found out i'm pregnant last tuesday, 6 weeks tomorrow.i was told i couldn't concieve, and it was unexplained why, great help!! two failed attempts at IVF.
so we gave up. this year i think i have had early misscaririges before i've even had the chance to do a test, i asked my doc if the "unexplained" could actually be that i'm losing the baby so early on its going unnoticed, and she said it was possible. so when my period was late this month i left it a week and did a test and it was positive,( never had a positive one before) so i prepared my self to lose it.
but i'm feeling positive now. i've never had a positive test before, and never been this late before. i am tense, i get the occasional craps in my lower tummy which worry me. my boobs are fulll and sore and i'm not fancying food right now, i just managed a bit of pasta, for breakfast! lol and i have never felt sooo tired, but i'm liking it because i no it means i'm really pregnant, and thats great! I just want to know if these stomach pains are normal, they are like mild period pains and almost in my groin/lower tummy. only short pains not constant. abit like trapped wind, which it could very well be. i think i'm going to get an early scan to be safe, i just want to confirm its there and alive and growing and its little poppy seed heart is beating then i can relax and enjoy being pregnant, something i've been wishing for for 5 years. congratulations to you all, my fingers are crossed for you all. xxxxx

hi i had a scan on yesterday because i had a miscarriage last year and they said that there was only a yolk sack like VRC and this is totally normal for this time. they said the heart beat can come later for some i think aslong as the measurements are ok your ok! did they say they would scan you again soon? coz i am havin another in 2 weeks! also u have a internal scan?? ouchy!! and ladylush23 i was panicing this time about another miscarriage but have been assured that spotting/bleeding is quite normal i think its where they baby is attaching to the side of the uterus its when it accompanied by pain you need to worry and its not pain like period pain its like OMG pain like someone is pulling really tight on a band about ur belly! obviously thats not a medical opinion just mine from havin a misscarriage last year. also i do know brown blood is old blood and mine was bright red with clots. hope that helps and your emergency scan goes ok.

Hi All, I found out that I am 6wks pregnant 3wks ago. My partner and i were in shock. firstly because my partner was told 7yrs ago he couldn't have children. Secondly my son is 21yrs old in Dec. so at the age of 42yrs this is scary, especially when i started to bleed and lose clots last sun. After 4days of worrying i had my scan on thurs, to hear the midwife say she could hear the heart beat and everything was fine was such a relief. I am still bleeding and losing clots but i am trying to keep positive. Has anyone else been in this situation??? Good luck to you all

Hi all. I am on beginning 6 week pregnat(I think!) (sorry for my english- not my first language).I didn't planned, and I never wanted a baby. Don't think that I have maternity instict. It was big shock. I have mixed feelings. My biggest support is my husband. He would love to have kids. But I dont know I will be good mum.;-( My breast hurts very much mostly evenings and also I have brief but frequent period-type pains, and feel dizzy in the mornings. Also my sense of smell is very strong....

I found out last week that I am pregnant, I am now 6 and a bit weeks and all seems fine so far!! This was not planned at all but I am excited all the same. My only concern is that my partner does not seem quite so happy! He worries a lot!! We have been together for 2 years but he had hoped it would be a planned experience and we would be married when I fell pregnant! Has anyone else had a similar experience? Please say someone has had the experience that as time goes on their partner has become more excited!!

I am in my 6th week and experiencing brief but frequent period-type pains. I see a few other people on this wall have the same, so feel right to assume this is normal. Esp as a lady says she had them with her other successful pregnancies :))

Just found out I am pregnant after trying for the last 3 years. Very excited. I have a three year old alredy. I remember the first time around my gyni said dont expect to hear a heart beat until 8 weeks so dont stress. She did say though that if I had ANY bleeding to go in and see her so rather be safe than sorry and get checked out. I am a little bit stressed about the birth though because last time round I was cut and then tore futher which resulted in 13 stiches.....not fun. Good luck all. :o)

hey jader,
im also young so your not alone! im 19 almost 20..
i think you are very brave. i think its best to ask your doctor what would be best for you two. you want a healthy baby no matter what. they might have to hospitalize you for awhile to keep an i on baby. i was hospitalized for two days because i have an infection in my uterus but they think it should be fine.
i wish you luck! young moms can be good moms too :)

im just got to be 6 weeks with my first! so im more than worried that anything and everything could go wrong. they havnt heard the heart beat yet which worries me but they said it could just be because im super early. just stressing!
pregnancy is so much different when you actually are..
you see women pregnant and wonder what they're going through.

has any one else had worries about the heartbeat? i hear its normal but you never know!
all i can say is we really are grumpy! i've already bitten my fiance's head off already, haha!

Guys bad news i think im miscarrying so good luck to you all and i guess i see you all soon crossing all fingers that we can try again.

My first pregnancy resulted in a miscarriage but I didn't realise how common it was to have a miscarriage with your first pregnancy until I started chatting to people. I had cramps and bleeding with miscarriage and cramps and bleeding when I was pregnant with my daughter...there is no way of knowing or trying to guess what is happening with your pregnancy. My advice would be to be happy but keep an open mind. Try not to get carried away until you have passed the 12 week stage. Its upsetting to miscarry but at lease you know you can get pregnant, some people can't even conceieve so just be glad you are fertile...chances are the miscarriage is just a way of your body preparing you for the real thing!
added by rowbottomc [Thu 13th Aug 2009 @ 11:02:56]
i've got minor cramps and aches too and had that when pregnant with my son so as far as i'm aware its just the womb expanding slightly or the fertilised egg attaching to the womb

Hi, just after some advice really. I'm pregnant 6 weeks, just found out, happy happy happy :) Got a question, haven't seen a doctor yet, but I'm having slight discomfort in the lower stomach area, kinda like period cramps only not that painful and not continuesly! Is that normal?? Very worried, coz I'm abroad and going on the plane in two days back to London... What do you say ladies?

My girlfriend had 2 miscarraiges and we try a third time but are not sure she had brown discharge n had some light red blood but she thinks she's not because of some abdominal pain and her breast did hurt and were getting bigger but it all stoped this past week did she have another miscarraige that's why they stopped hurting?

Absolutly petrified!!! thats the best way to describe how i am feeling now!miscarried at approx 5/6 weeks 2 years ago and this is the second time im pregnant...i had period type pain before i was even due on...every time i suddenly moved and when i first woke up it was worst.then around when my period was due i felt like i had a really bad urine infection...did pregnancy test as i felt like i had infection last time and it was positive...later on in the day i found owt i had some brown discharge and a bit of bright blood! tho not 2 much thankfully.urine is clear and so are swabs so no infection.evrey day is different but always feel like i have cysitus and hav period pain on and off.the pain isnt strong enough to be a worry and get scanned early...although my last period was lighter so i have to have a dating scan wich the midwife will book in the next few weeks.i am convinced this pregnancy wont last it seems almost impossible for such good thing to happen 2 me!i have an anxiety disorder anyway and im not allowed to take my medication for it as it can affect the fetus's heart so you can imagine how worried sick and paranoid i am! its all just a waiting game and i hate it!breasts are a bit sore but nothing like last time!feel sick all of a sudden all the time and nearly am sick wen i smell certain thing! not been sick yet tho!Fingers crossed that it will last and be normal.so worried that if i miscarry again it will happen every time! anyway time will tell! Your not on your own every one !..wish you all the best of luck fingers crossed x x

Hi
t16adt.
That is completely normal what you're feeling. I'm exactly the same at the moment, I'll be 5 weeks Sunday. I have a little boy already, who's 2.5. My boobs weren't as sore last time but are really bad this time. And I was quite nauseaus a lot last, but this time it is just waves of nausea but no actual sickness as of yet.
I really wish you the very best that this one clings on for you. x x

Hi All. I am 6 weeks and 6 days pregnant with my first baby. My partner and I are overjoyed! This is a truly strong wee baba though - I took the morning after pill less than 24 hours after sex (condom came off) and yet the baby had other plans. I am SO happy - am loving all the horrible side effects of pregancy. I totally overdid it though yesterday and have ended up in bed today due to sheer exhaustion. I am 35 and my mother had me at 37 so I am feeling okay about being an older first time mother. I had sickness early on and highly recommend making up ginger and honey in boiling water (like an infusion) leave it to chill then strain it and put in a water bottle to carry round. Addmore or less honey to taste. It really helps when I feel queasy and local honey is very good for you in pregancy (and can also help if you suffer hayfever) Good luck everyone!

I am 6 1/2 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I have been trying for a baby for 5 years with 2 failed IVF cycles. It just happened out of the blue and I am over the moon
I am sooooo tired and my boobs are killing me, I have been feeling sick but only gagged a few times - I have also gone off a lot of foods.
I hear all of this is a good sign.
I am getting a few twinges but think more down to constipation than anything,. I just want to sleep all the time but I cant as I have to work lol
Well im anxiously waiting for a scan in about 4 weeks or so. I had a scan at 5 1/2 weeks and could hardly believe that there is a little person growing inside me after all these years
good luck to everyone and may god be with you and your little ones x

Hi, I have just become a member. I am 6 weeks pregnant and I am feeling pretty good although I get very tired, my boobs are tender but not hugely painful and I have been assured that this is completely fine. I had cramps in the early weeks but these have now passed, I have my first midwife appointment next week and can't wait to find out more. I read that some of you are worried about the lack of symptons but mine have disappeared too and I have been told by a midwife that this is normal and that some women go through their entire pregnancies with no symptoms at all.

So - it's the beginning of week 6. My boobs are so sore i can barely stand to take my bra off at the end of the day - even hugging people is painful. Unfortunately, no sickness yet, just overwhelming hunger, so am piling on pounds. I have endometriosis and I was hoping that the symptoms would be 'cured' through pregnancy, but it appears not. The abdominal cramps have been worse than ever over the weekend and i don't know what kind of pain relief i can use. I have morphine for home use as the pain is so severe, but i'm scared to take something so strong in case it causes miscarriage. Have an appt at EPAC on Wednesday am - fingers crossed.

good luck with everything! prayin 4 a sticky bean!! lol! ~:)

I am 6 weeks and a few days pregnanat but keep worrying as everything that I've read says that I should be feeling sick and have painful boobs, well I feel fantatsic and my boobs are tender but not p[ainful, although they were a few weeks ago! I am however tired and sleeping a lot and going to the loo twice in the night but still pass urine in the day too. people on here have said that a MC is more likely if you don't feel sick and have sore boobs... is anyone else feeling fab?

Hi Hayleynizzy, I know exactly how you feel - I'm 6 wks pregnant with my third baby (i had a miscarriage with my 2nd but went onto have another baby who is 18mths) We have been trying for 5 months to get pregnant as I have a 4 year age gap between my first and second and wanted a small age gap between the 2nd and 3rd but I can't stop worrying something is going to go wrong and am trying not to get too excited. I've been planniing this baby since my daughter was born and want it so much I am so scared its going to go wrong. Its devastating when you lose a baby as you more than most know. I have asked for an early scan which they have agreed to give me (although I had one just before I miscarried which was all ok so theres not much point other than having something to focus on before the 12 wk scan). I've had 2 heart ops so in a way I am lucky as I get looked after really well by really understanding doctors and nurses. I wish you all the best x

Hi, I'm finally pregnant again! I had an ectopic Dec 07 then an early misscarraige in April last year and was beginning to give up hope. At 38 I've left it quite late. So finger's crossed third time lucky, its all going fine so far but I'm just 5.5 weeks. I'll get an early scan next week so I'm counting the days. From what I've read online everyone is different but symptoms like sore boobs, bloating, sleeplessness, lower abdomen pain etc all seem quite common. I've got the sore boobs, sleeplessness and a wee bit of nausea which will probably only get worse!! I wish I'd done this a few years ago - I keep thinking I'm too old for all this! My fiance is very excited though, after what happened before I keep having to say to him its early days yet.
Good luck to everyone, these sites are great and very reassuring for us first timers.

Hello Mummies2B.

I've known for about 3 0r 4 weeks that I'm pregnant. I've felt pregnant. I checked my cervix and was so sure. Then in the super market the other week I could smell the brie in the deli from about five aisles away, it really turned my stomach - and I love brie. I took a HPT yesterday and oop, there we have it. Pregnant. I have a sort of heavy feeling in my pelvis, my bladder feels full almost continuously, and there is a subdued euphoria sensation all round my body. Hubbs & me are pretty overwhelmed, he isn't taking it so well. I'm a little unsteady about this because we are not married yet. I hope this will be an opportunity for us to focus and aim towards what we really want in life. I feel a lot of changes on the way. This will be our first baby. We are both 28 but still feel too young to be parents. eeek!!!

Congratulations to you all and best of luck!

Hey everyone. It all started out with a raging kidney infection. That's what got me to the doctor in the first place. They ran a few test, you know, urine and of coarse blood, and thats how I found out i was pregnant. This is my first, and at first i was really paranoid about it,but, hey its with a man i love and that loves me so now i'm happy about it. I'm not throwing up yet, just really sleepy that's all. But congrats to all the rest of the mothers to be...lol!!

Hi All, Congrats on the pregnancy.. This is all to scary for me. im only about 6-7wks gone and had so much trouble already. i was getting bad pains lower pelvic and was taken to hospital as they thought it was ectopic but it was not but i do have a cist on my left ovaries. at the min the cist is actually bigger than my baby sac, which is quite scary but i have been told it should disappear at about 12wks . so fingers crossed. I had a miscarriage in Oct so i fell pregnant straight away. so trying not to get to excited about this one.

Hey there, I'm 6 weeks pregnant today and really anxious about it. I had a miscarriage last year and we haven't waited very long to before trying again - we have been so lucky to conceive so quickly, but I am just terrified that I'll miscarry again. My boobs are really sore and I've been feeling a bit sicka and mega tired.

I'm trying hard not to think about it, just take it easy, but its easier said than done!!! I hope you are all doing well.

I'm 6wks +1 day pregnant today (23.12.08), very nervous (suffered miscarriage last May), and had colposcopy & loop diathermy in August...... However had a scan yesterday, saw babies fluttering heart beat, got another scan next week (they are keeping an eye on me), but so far so good.... I feel EXTREMELY lazy and lethargic (can't be bothered to do anything!) i'm not normally like this, feel exhausted and my eyes are blurry, feel abit miserable and unsociable. Bit uncomfortable in abdoninal area - nothing bad, had no bleeding or spotting AT ALL - very happy but nervous! x

Well my situation is the same as PRINCESS2MUMMIE. Im 6 weeks pregnant and also had a miscarriage last May. Ive had a miscarriage before in April of 2002 and then had the birth of my son Aug 2003. So Im hoping this pregnancy goes well as it did when I was pregnant with my son. I believe my miscarriages resulted because Im RH NEGATIVE BLOOD.

But Keep your head up and think the best results of this pregnancy and you will be fine to the end....

Hiya, I am about 6-7 weeks pregnant with my first child and i found out about 3 weeks ago but had nothing but complications since. The main complication is bleeding. I am litterally bleeding every week, not heavy but still concerned. After been examined I was told i was bleeding from the cervix and have also had a colposcopy which makes you bleed too. I have other pregnancy symptoms but a scan I had a week and half ago, the scan showed the baby may not be growing but uncertain. I have another scan tomorrow. Has anyone else had problems like this please or any advice? I was already told I'd miscarried once only for my blood test to show otherwise.

hi princess I'm in a similar situation to you, althoug i miscarried 6 yrs ago now & did have a successful pregnancy after from which my daughters now 5. I am absolutley terrified of miscarrying again, I just can't feel anything except anxious at the minute im too scared to get excited. I'm thankfully having an early scan on the 16th december to make sure all is ok, but am still worried. I have had a bit of sickness, but like you just generally dont feel great, I'm just worrying at any slight tummy ache. It is hard not to worry I'm doing my best just to chill out. It's unlikely for both of us for it to happen again & i hope you can take so comfort knowing i had managed to have a successful pregnancy after my miscarraige thats whats keeping me going. Good luck & keep updated on here x

i was pregnant and had an abortion a few months ago, i regret it hugely. i was working abroad and seeing this guy, ended up pregrnant, i wanted the baby so much, but he didnt and what made it worse was that i thought i was infertile, so this felt like my chance, but i didnt want the baby to not have a father, and also i needed to continue with my uni course and...it was just so messed up. i had the abortion abroad and i didnt know what was going on as i could hardly speak that language and just as i was being taken into theatre i really wanted to say STOP! but it was too late. im now stuck and i feel so awful.

hi i was wondering if steph has been n here recently? i hope so i would like to find out if she has made that decision and how she is coping. i had abortion at 17. i didnt get a choice. i regret it to this day i am 35 now. i had a boy when i was 21 he is my miracle. i had 2 early misccarriages at 8 weeks when i was 32. 2 late misscarriages at 19-20 weeks last year and now i am six weeks and hoping and praying that it all works out. when we find our selves in positions that are unexpected we tend to take the easy option or go along with advice of family and friends. but utimatley we have to do whatever it takes and we are usually alone. we feel no-one understands and that we feel desperate enough to make the situation go away. and again we are alone. every body deserve the right to make that desicion for themselves. as long as they are prepared for what comes after. either way support is a neccesaty( cant spell!) although inside u are alone on the outside u have friends and family. listen to all advice but make up your own mind its ur body.

Hi everyone, Im a gay girl in a longterm relationship. I did a self insemination around 4 and half weeks ago. I charted to make sure I got my timing right but not sure if I missed my ovulation by a day. Practically straight away, I started getting a creamy white discharge...which I'm still getting. I didnt get my hopes up and two weeks later I had a period. I usually bleed for 6 days but this time only really bled for about three then had a brown discharge for a couple of days.
A week after I should have concieved, I started with a horrid mettalic taste in my mouth which was so bad that I couldn't stomach certain drinks...i.e tea!!
Im constantly exhausted although this could be down to the fact that i work nights. The strange thing is my boobs are so sore, I only have trouble with painful breasts just before i'm due on so its a bit unusual. Plus its not just my boobs but my nipples. The other day my partner was shocked to notice huge blue veins running through my breasts, practically touching my nipples!
oh and ive done nothing but eat for three weeks and ive just started getting lots of pimples on my face.
Any ideas?,......ive done about 5 home tests (the cheap strip tests off the internet) and they have all been negative.
The thing that makes me question how I feel is that about a week ago I had the regular feeling and symtoms of ovulation.....could I be pregnant???

Well I got pregnant at the tender age of 12 years old, I knew I was pregnant but in denial, it was only when my mothers growing concern led me to the Gyno I was told I was almost 4 months pregnant. Another week andI would have been too far gone to have an abortion. My parents made the decision for me to have one. I dont regret their decision but it has affected me to this day. I also gave birth February 20th to a beautiful baby boy named Dexey, who unfortunately had a rare heart defect called Pulmonary Atresia and after open heart surgery passed away at 2 days old. That is now 2 babies I have lost and think about every day. Fingers crossed, I am 5 weeks and 3 days pregnant now and praying every day that I have a healthy baby that I can cherish for the rest of my life. Shelli, only you can make the right decision that is best for you, your furutre and your baby but certainly DO NOT jump into anything quickly without throughly thinking it through, it may haunt you for the rest of your life, please please please talk to someone, there are options available to you, DO NOT THINK YOUR ALONE!!!!

I am unsure if I am preganant? I had my last full period on the 7th June which could mean I am at 6 weeks, but I had a 2 day light period on the 4th July.

I had an eptopic in june last year and had my left follopian tube removed as it ruptured, but for the last 5 days all I have wanted to eat is Chilli! and then yesterday I was dizzy, lightheaded, unsteady on my feet and nauseus, I have pins and needles in my hands and they are numb... could I be pregnant?
