Pregnancy week 19

Pregnancy calendar week 19 of being pregnant - Your baby's movements are stronger and more coordinated because her nervous system is now more sophisticated.

Discuss pregnancy week 19 on our forums, right now! Or, post a comment below.

You

If you haven't felt your baby move before, you may feel her for the first time this week. You may have an ultrasound scan this week or next. Many hospitals encourage your partner to attend with you.

You may start developing stretchmarks, about 90% of women do. Help keep them at bay by keeping your weight gain steady with exercise and a healthy diet. There is not much you can do to avoid them if you are prone to them. Try using wheatgerm/vitamin E cream or oil on your breasts or stomach. Stretchmarks do fade to silvery lines in the months after birth.

Your baby

Your baby's movements are stronger and more coordinated because her nervous system is now more sophisticated. The first strand of hair will begin to grow on her head.

Your baby will begin to recognise your voice and may respond to loud noises or music by making jerky movements possibly showing that whatever she is hearing is too loud and frightening. She will also feel your touch when you massage your abdomen. Your baby now sleeps and wakes at regular intervals and has started to exercise her lungs and practice her breathing techniques.

I'm 18+2 and over the past week or two the baby's movements have been very noticable to me. This is my first pregnancy and my abs are quite tight and so I feel him poking me. When I lie down I can feel his exact position in my womb. I feel a lot of movement in the morning before I get out of bed. It feels like he's trying to scramble under my bladder to his favourite snooze spot.

I wouldnt describe the sensation like either flutters or popping bubbles. The sensation is a definite prod or poke and sometimes it moves right accross my tummy.

I'm looking forward to the 21 week scan in early June so that I can spy on his weird little world and see how well he is developing. He definitely feels about 5 inches in length when I cup my hand over the lump he makes under my skin. Just miniature!!

I wish my partner had a little more patience in holding my tummy when the baby is active. But he is rather weirded out by it. I have felt him kick on my hand before and know oh could feel it too.

Any tips as to how to convince oh that our baby in my tummy is not an alien?

Our wee Fig Jackson is kicking like a trooper today!! Freakin hilareous!

Hi there, I've just reached 19 weeks and breathing a sigh of relief, and now starting to get excited. I've had four miscarriages and a stillborn angel over the past 10 years and now, finally, I'm hoping with all my heart this is our time. Been having flutters and think its little one making her presence felt, which is just fine with me. Scans are good and the heartbeat is really strong so fingers crossed. Hugs to all, Jo

I'm 19 weeks today and have not felt any movement except at 16weeks, there was a slight flutter once which I think was the baby?!?. I've been suffering with SPD which really hurts after walking for an hour! I've been having physio which was recommended at my 12 week scan after two doctors ignored the pain I was in and basically said it'll get worse get used to it! CHARMING :)
I also get stomach cramps 3-4 times a day which feel like really strong period pains :( looking forward to my 20 weeks scan next wk, so I know all's ok & lookin forward to feeling baby move! Elle

This is my third baby and I have very strong feelings that it is going to be a boy. But even if it turns out to be another girl it won't matter as long as its as healthy as can be. I have 2 girls already. I have felt this baby move since I was about 5-6 weeks the same as it was for my 2nd daughter. My husband put his hand on my stomach the other night for the first time and the baby kicked him hard but he said he couldn't feel it. I guess because I know what to expect I can feel it more etc....

Hello. recently my baby has started to move, my partner feels left out because he cannot feel our baby move. Hopefully some time soon he will be able to feel our little one move. Ive got a lot more energy and I dont have that many mood swings but they still can become a problem. Its some times stressful on our relationship because he may not understand me or he may thing that i am over reacting. I just wish that we could swap and let the men have a go at being pregnant. x
