Pregnancy week 12

Symptoms of pregnancy at week 12 of being pregnant- You may want to begin to tell people about your exciting news this week.

Discuss pregnancy week 12 on our forums, right now! Or, post a comment below.

You

Your mood swings may calm down and you may start to feel less anxious as the risk of miscarriage shrinks considerably. Nausea and vomiting may begin to ease as your fluctuating hormones begin to settle. You may have an ultrasound scan during this week and see your baby for the first time.

You may want to begin to tell people about your exciting news this week. If you want to take time off work for antenatal appointments, start thinking about your speaking to your boss.

Your uterus is too large to remain in your pelvis and pushes out above your pubic bone. You may begin to gain extra weight and develop a distinct bump. Your feet and hands may often feel hot; that's because in order to lower your blood pressure the veins and arteries in your extremities relax.

Your baby

Your baby is now fully formed but needs the next six months to fully mature. Your baby is roughly the size of a plum and is starting to move his or her fingers. You still cannot feel your baby moving because she is so tiny. Your baby's eyes are completely formed and now move round to the front of the face. The bones are growing, although they are still soft cartilage at this stage. The placenta now takes over as your baby's life-support system. It will filter oxygen and nutrients into the foetus from the mother's bloodstream via the umbilical cord.

Hi All,
i'm 12 weeks at the moment, had a scare last week when i had some heavy bleeding. Was taken to A&E as recommended by my on-call doctor. was booked in for a scan the next day. i went for my scan and they said baby looked fine, was moving around nicely and heartbeat was good, bleeding was unexplainable (possibly body telling me to slow down and take it easy). I then went for my 12 week scan a few days later because before i was just under, and this time baby was messing me around, i was there for 1 hour 30 mins trying to get a clear view, they could get heartbeat, and rough measuments but no clear picture, so going for another scan tomorrow, thats 3 in 1 week. hoping this one goes much better.

I had my first scan on the 18th Jan, and it was a very emotional experience for both me and my other half. The baby was very active already and wouldn't sit still for pics! Everything is fine and dandy at present, and the baby measures about 12 cm. Is this right for this time in the womb? Bit confused as I thoguht I was about 16 weeks gone, working out my dates???

Hi, I'm 11 weeks pregnant and have my 1st scan on Dec 5th. Im really scared as this is my 1st baby and dont know what to expect. It feels such a long time ago that I found out that I was pregnant and both me and my partner keep thinking is this really happening to us, am I really pregnant. Seeing our baby for the 1st time is going to be the most amazing experience for me and I cant wait 2 c the baby grow over the next few months.

Hello to all the mums in this forum. I am 12 weeks tomorrow and it's my first baby. I am waiting for my nurse and scan appointments this week. I am really excited and very nervous at the same time. I am having this dream about my baby suffering from down syndrome and it really freaks me out. Is this normal to have this fear before the scan?

I went for the 12 week scan for my first baby earlier this week and like most other prospective mums I was very nervous there would be something wrong. Thankfully everything was perfect and the doctor assured me that when complications typically exist the mum would have sensed something wrong in advance. What I want to warn other prospecitve mums about is the Pregnacare vitamins - I had been taking it for a few months when I decided to switch to the Pregnacare Plus, which also contains Omega 3. As you might experience with food poisoning I had excruting pain for about a week until it dawned on me that the vitamin must be the culprit. Now I am perfectly fine but I want to warn anyone taking vitamins that they may not agree with you. Good luck everyone :) x

I am 12.1 weeks pregnant with my first baby, tried for 20 years with husband got divorced and met my current partner had IVF and was successful, still can't quite believe it. Had a scan at 7 and 8 weeks as was bleeding a little but everything was fne with the baby, just had 12 week scan and they have moved my due date forward to 6th March which I am thrilled about. Feel ok apart from tiredness and dreadful colliky indigestion which starts in the afternoon until bedtime, Gaviscon does not touch it, very painful, but it is worth putting up with!!

Hello I am just about approaching my 12 week date (i think) My second pregnancy but am still just as nervous as the first time around. (my lovely little boy has just turned 2 now) Keep thinking its a phantom is this normal? I did one of those new dating pregnancy tests and it told me i was 5-6 weeks pregnant but turned out i was only 1-2 weeks pregnant after having an internal scan. It was the start of a twin pregnancy but only one cell developed, so been a long 6 weeks. My scan is wed 29th and cant wait. i'm just hoping all ok. Good luck everyone else

I am 12 weeks today and have my scan on Tuesday (2 days) am v excited but also nervous. My first bubs, Sophie had quite a few problems which were diagnosed at the 12 week scan so I have a little fear of this one going wrong too. My doctors advise that lightening doesnt strike twice so I have been hopeful and positive, what else can you do! My daughter is 3 years old now and bubs 2 is due Jan 10th, unless scan says otherwise! We have joked that it might be twins as I am showing a lot already and have had extremely bad nausea, tiredness etc compared to last time. Am sure its just one,I'll have a heart attack if its two! xx
I had my scan today and found out that I am earlier than I thought which really confused me!! So baby is now due on Jan 23rd and I have to go back for another scan on 13th July. I had a normal and and an internal scan today and baby is looking healthy an happy so far, good strong heartbeat, Def get quite a good view with the internal scan. Anyway, its not twins lol. Was v v relieved to see heartbeat know all is ok ( I will havw to wait for next scan to be reassured ) but am feeling a lot happier today :-)

Hi, I had my first scan last week. Im 12 weeks and 5 days now. The sickness is finally going and the stress of misscarriage has gone. Im feeling quite calm about my pregnancy now.
I couldnt explain the feeling i got when i saw the baby on the screen for the first time. The people couldnt get a good picture of the baby though it seemed very active just like its daddy!!!

hello, im 12 weeks tomoro had my dating scan last thurs saw babys heart beat and baby kicking around then was told there was too much fluid on back of babys neck which is usually a sign for downs syndrome or a heart defect so had to see the consultant the next day and he did a thorough scan and a cvs (they put a needle in ur stomach and take a bit of the placenta) and had to wait till today for results babys FINE and is a BOY!!! has anyone else been through this its the worst thing!! good luck too all xxx

Hi!!! had first scan today! i was two days out, i was 11 weeks and 5days!! baby was really active and could not get a good picture to print! looked great on the video though moving about! catherine 23, i have always suffered with bad migraines, if you feel one coming on, eat some rich tea biscuits, and if you can lie down with a really cold wet flannel over your eyes, and also try those things that you rub on your forehead that kind of numb your forehead!!

Hello, just had my first scan today which confirmed I am 12.4 weeks pregnant which puts me a week ahead, I was just glad to see a baby there as also nervous of a phantom pregnancy but thankfully all is well and the baby looked very relaxed. Travel sickness bands are good for nausea (Boots) so give them a try if you are suffering. Know of any good cures for migraines as I had a blinder a couple of weeks ago and paracetamol doesn't even touch it? Good luck xxx

Hey 'Banksy', I am 12 weeks and my sickness and nausea has calmed down, but from the day I found out i was so sick and got admitted twice into hospital. Extreme sickness is classed as Hypernesis Grandvarum {spelt about right}, ppl said eat ginger biscuits but i found eating melon little and often helped and nothing heavy as it doesn't help at all. x

Boobs are massive but the sickess consumes my evenings so making me very grumpy! Not sure if my boyf can take much more of my moaning... GOOD LUCK everyone xx

I'm 12 weeks today, very excited. I had a misscarrage @ 6 weeks last year and things are going good now. I'm a size 0-1 and I'm still not seeing a big difference in my tummy. I had a ultrasound @ 8 weeks and things were fine, but I haven't had one since. Is it normal to still have a flat stomach @ 12 weeks?

hi 'lovemarcus', i would go straight to your doctor & see what he can give you for it, as constipation & constant straining can cause piles, which although r really common in pregnancy, they really, really hurt, i had them with my 1st pregnancy & they caused alot of bleeding too. So it is possible that u have developed them already...you should definatelty go to ur doctor or midwife & explain just how bad it's got & see what they can advise. Good luck!

Have just reached 12 weeks HOORAY !!! Sickness daily from weeks 5 - 11 and then once this week with a 2 day hangover... bleugh... But I take my sickness as a good sign as I miscarried 3 times before and never had sickness. My tip would be to not eat full meals but don't miss out on eating altogether, instead eat little and often and as soon as you're even slightly hungry coz as soon as that stomach acid kicked in for me, the nausea came sweeping back. 13 snacks a day keeps the sickness at bay !

I am nearly 12 weeks now, not had much sickness but feeling very tired. I have 1 boy already, 5 years old, but i am very nervous about this pregnancy as i have lost a baby at 38 weeks and the pregnancy after that i mis-carried, so fingers crossed and good luck to every one out there xx

Hey Mittal, like you, I like to eat salty food too! I felt really bloated and my skin stretched a lot around my stomache area. I think it's due to too much intake of salt. Salt can cause water retention in our body. It should be okai to eat salty food but do it in moderation. Anything which is excessive it's always not good anyway, not only salt.
added by atnix [Fri 24th Oct 2008 @ 16:50:48]
Don't know what to do for the sickness cos I've never had it, but a penchant for salty foods is supposed to indicate a boy! (Old wives tale!)

I am 12 weeks on Monday, and am new to this site!! I had to go for a v. early scan as dr thought i may be having an eptopic pregnancy due to pains in my lower abdomen but luckily everything was fine!! I was then sent for my dating scan at 9 weeks which was strange - even my midwife said it was early!! but still managed to see baby (blob + heartbeat) ok!
I still keep getting "ouch" twinges every now and then but i know now it is my bits inside stretching!! This is my 2nd baby and i think i am much more paranoid than i can ever remember being with my 1st!! my waist line has also increased alot already, even though i weigh myself and havent actually put on any weight yet! No morning sickness but tiredness is beyond beleif, i get home from work and literally collapse on the sofa, cant even bring myself to eat or speak to anyone sometimes!

I am 12wks and 1 day although may be further ahead as I have not had a scan since 6 weeks and then 9 and my dates changed rapidly in between the two previous scans!
Ive suffered very badly with mroning sickness - everyday for the past 6 weeks. Its been awful! Finally stopped around 4 days ago now but tierdness is still with me and cant face getting out of bed in the mornings at the moment! Im wanting to know if anyone else is showing yet? Its very obvious that im pregnant - its my first baby and im not a big girl although my stomach is not quite hard yet and the bump is quite "flabby". Im wondering if its water rentention and wanted to know if it will turn harder in time as I dont want ppl to think im fat - just pregnant! your help most appreciated! Thanks

just did a pregnancy test yesterda which confirmed my suspicions. phoned the dad - who is overseas at the moment and he still sounds like he is taking it in - won´t see him for another few weeks - but have emailed him photos of the positive test result.

phoned and have a doctors appointment for tuesday. hopefully i can get a scan before i go over to see the baby´s dad! hopefully everything wil be okay with the baby too.

am a little fatter - which i partly put down to eating junk as i wanted to get pregnant before but didn´t - so told myself i couldnt be this time either.

my boobs have taken on a life of their own and my bras are all too small for me - which i put down to weight gain! they are quite big normally but now they are massive.

haven´t had any sickness though i haven´t been able to eat large amounts at meal times - probably from not long after the baby was conceived! i get full after a few mouthfuls or half a plate - but other times i am ravenous and could eat a horse!

Think my hair has gone a bit funny - put that down to having gone swimming a lot lately - now realise what could be the true cause.

happy but worried as haven´t been to the doctor yet.
had an idiot drive into my car a few weeks ago and am worried the seatbelt could have done some damage. also worried about sleeping tablets i took in the first week or two of pregnancy - although a local pharmacist said not to worry.

please feel free to contact me if you are reading this

I am going to be 12 weeks pregnant this Friday and I am sooo excited. It still does not feel real yet. I have not had any morning sickness at all. I guess I got lucky. I am just very tired and sleepy. My breast are the only part of my body that hurts....lol... I have an ultrasound tomorrow and can't wait to see how much my baby has grown. I can't wait to find out if it's a boy or a girl! I already have a small pouch, which is crazy because I can't believe how early I am starting to show. Is this normal or am I just eating too much?..lol... I weigh about 128 pounds with a small pouch.
