Pregnancy week 1

Pregnancy calendar: week 1 of being pregnant - Not there yet!

Discuss pregnancy week 1 on our forums, right now! Or, post a comment below.

You

Week 1 is actually the week of your last menstrual period.

When you work out your estimated due date, your pregnancy is calculated from the first day of your last period. This means that although the first two weeks are counted as part of your 40 week pregnancy your baby won't actually have been conceived yet. So effectively when you are eight weeks pregnant your developing baby is only six weeks old!

At this time it is advisable to eat a health well balanced diet, stop drinking alcohol and smoking and take folic acid supplements to help prevent spina bifida.

Your baby

In two weeks you will be at your most fertile and your partner's sperm will be able to reach your egg. As the nuclei fuse, a single cell is created. This is the start of your baby's conception.
