Hollywood actor Mel Gibson has revealed that he and his girlfriend are going to have a baby together.

The 53-year-old confirmed his happy news while being interviewed by US chat show host Jay Leno.

"This is true. We're gonna have a child," he said.

Gibson and Oksana Grigorieva, 39, have been together for three years and this will be their first child together.

The Braveheart star is currently in the process of divorcing his wife Robyn, to whom he was married for almost three decades.

He has seven children, six sons and one daughter, with Robyn and during his appearance on the Tonight Show Gibson made reference to the fact that he is going to have his eighth child by calling himself "Octo-Mel".

Gibson has appeared in a string of hit films throughout his long career, including Mad Max, Lethal Weapon, Hamlet and The Year of Living Dangerously.
