Hollywood actress Salma Hayek has said that she is addicted to breastfeeding her baby daughter Valentina, saying that it is a "very powerful thing".

Valentina, Hayek's child with her French businessman ex-boyfriend Francois-Henri Pinault, was born in September last year and the Frieda actress has been breastfeeding her only baby for more than a year now.

Speaking to the Sunday Times Style magazine, the 42-year-old said that she could not bring herself to stop because she knows how beneficial breast milk is for infants.

"I'm like an alcoholic. It's like, I don't care if I cry, I don't care if I'm fat, I'm just gonna do it for one more week, one more month and then, when I see how much good it is doing her, I can't stop," she said.

Hayek, who is an ambassador for Unicef and supports the Pampers and Unicef campaign, said that she found breast-feeding painful at first.

The normally svelte star also said that she had not noticed any beneficial effects to her figure as she had heard that breastfeeding helps weight loss after giving birth.

She explained: "You don't know what pain I'm in after two hours, how difficult it was at first. And by the way, the myth that says you lose all this weight when you breast-feed? That is so not true."
