Anticipation is building in the AskBaby office as the release date of the final installment of J K Rowling's enthralling series draws nearer. After the dramatic (and hugely shocking) ending of the penultimate book, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Price, we've hardly been able to wait to receive our pre-order Harry Potter 7 copies and find out whether Harry manages to defeat the Dark Lord Voldemort once and for all and make it to the end of the book unscathed.
Officially released at midnight on the 21st July 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' is set to follow Harry as he continues his quest to search and destroy the Horcruxes into which 'he who shall not be named' hides fragments of his immortal soul. Rumoured to be the first book in the series to be set outside of the walls of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Rowling has revealed little about the way this finale will pan out. Declining even to divulge the meaning of the title, unsurprisingly speculation about the outcome of the intricate plot has been rife.
Said by Rowling to follow on from the penultimate book so closely that they could almost be 'two halves of the same novel', Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will see Harry and his compatriots, Ron and Hermione, come of Wizarding age and able to practice magic and apparition outside of the classroom, something that will undoubtedly come in useful as they embark on their difficult quest!
In the final book we are also set to find out whether the future of Hogwarts is safe (something that at the moment seems highly questionable due to the ending of the last book!), whether Bill Weasley and Fleur make it down the aisle in one piece and where the true loyalties of Professor Snape lie after his huge betrayal.
While i'm hoping for a happy ending that sees Ron, Hermione and Harry (possibly with Ginny on his arm? - she's rumoured to play an important part in this final installment) strolling off into the sunset for a happy ever after, Rowling has suggested that not all of the main characters will make it to the end. Whatever the outcome you can be sure that Rowling will have included enough twists and turns, triumphs and defeats in the plot to keep you turning page after page and sitting on the edge of your seat right until the very end.
Fortunately the release date is drawing ever closer and while i'm counting the days until the postman drops a copy through my front door (all of the AskBaby team have pre-order Harry Potter 7 for fear of it selling out!), at least we have the film of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, released on the 11th of the same month, to keep us going until then!
