Useful information on what to look for when you are buying cough syrup or medicine for your baby.
There are very few cough syrups for babies under one year old. Baby cough syrups are generally for a non-productive cough i.e. a dry cough, not a chesty cough. Baby cough syrups contain glycerol which acts as a soother, it does not do much else, but because it is for baby it is the safest thing.
If your baby has a persistent cough for longer than a week or one that keeps returning you should take them to see their GP.
